One giant leap for mankind…
OK, well maybe a bit presumptuous of me. Perhaps not a giant leap for mankind, but still a leap of sorts. My sister started her blog a few months ago and then it seemed to fizzle. Well, it appears her New Year’s resolution is to blog like a maniac, and I can’t stand by and watch it happen. I mean, if my sister is blogging and me, technogeek of the family, isn’t then something is seriously wrong!
So now that you know the motivation of this site, sit back and enjoy. This site is in its infacy as I am just testing this whole blog thing out, seeing if it is something I want to keep up on doing. I’m thinking it might be interesting to have a sort of journal, so that I can look back at the end of the year to see what I have accomplished, or how I have changed. Highly doubt any of the latter will occur, as I am a stubborn mofo!
Accomplishment #1 of 2006: Got a promotion at work.
After 2 interviews and several feedback sessions, I was finally offered a Team Leader position at the call center where I work. Normally, I would have interviewed again for the position, but my boss liked what he saw in my first two meetings and it was close enough to the last competition that he could just give me the job. Found out last Friday around midnight, as my boss said to call him anytime that night. Sure enough, he was out at the pub with the boys, and so he offered me the position in between beers and with incesent background noise. I could care less though…. I GOT PROMOTED!!
Goal #1 of 2006: Become debt free.
With the new position at work, it does come with a healthy pay increase. After treating myself to some geek toys, the next order of business is to become debt free by the end of the year. If not debt free, then at least have a puddle of debt rather than the pond I have right now. Granted, it is not a lake or ocean of debt, but a pond is more than I really want right now. I would like to get my own place, but don’t want to do it with debt over my head. Looking at things, it is realistic for me to have a very minimal amount of debt by the end of the year and moving to my own place. That is the goal I have set and is the one I really want to stick with.
The only hurdle will be my desire to buy myself a nice BIG TV for all the movies I love to watch, or to buy some new toys for the car. I am going to have to come up with a system for me to not impulse buy and to have to think purchases through, which I have not been very good at before. If the money is in my account, I figure I have to spend it. No more!
Well, there you have it. Post #1 of hopefully many. I must go now, as I have a movie sitting here begging to be watched, and I don’t want to disappoint it.
