The Fresh Prince of Ottawa
Hmmmm, 3 entries in a week. I better slow down. Not much to say really, but that probably won’t stop me from writing a novel. All of you who were anxiously sitting on the edge of your seats wondering what was happening with the Canada Post situation, I can answer some of your questions. Yes, the package did arrive the next day (as most of you probably thought it would) and so I have my new Sony Ericsson K750i cell phone – which kicks ass I must say. It does more things than I need it to but I got a good deal on it and so couldn’t pass it up. All in the size of my old one I have a phone, 2 megapixel camera and MP3 player which can be as big as the memory card I put in it, which is 4GB right now – not to mention countless other features that I will probably not use but I need to have in order to look cool! I know, I know… you are all probably wondering how I could even possibly look cooler than I already am… it is hard but can be done. As for the other package, don’t ask as I still don’t know. Hell, they didn’t even respond to me email… I can’t imagine why hehehe! I think I will make a promise to stop writing when I am really tired and cranky, which doesn’t leave me much time for writing.
As for the title of this entry you may wonder? If we were still in the 80s or 90s I would say that I pulled out the old vinyl and turnables and did me up some scratching. Thankfully those decades are behind us, so I simply plugged in some MP3s into my fancy “makemedance-otron” program and out popped a new mix. Cindy asked for some new music to freshen up her collection, specifically upbeat stuff to excercise to. In my typical fashion I put it off for a while until the mood struck me like it did this weekend. And again in my typical fashion, I didn’t do much else until the damn thing was finished. I am still not completely happy with the mix as it seems to go all over the place musically, but there is one constant – you can’t stop your head from bobbing while it’s playing. I have gone over each transition and mix and it’s pretty damn good, with only 2 of the 15 blends not making me happy but even they aren’t too bad (I am a little bit of a perfectionist). It’s pretty good for my first attempt at beat matching and mixing in a little over a year – the last compilation being released in limited distribution (me, myself and I) last August. The first track on the album is Love Me or Hate Me by Lady Sovereign which I love and is what got me going on making the mix in the first place. If you follow the link I just provided, the first sample that plays on her site is the Love Me or Hate Me track. I picked up her albums (Public Warning and Vertically Challenged) and hot damn!! you haven’t heard anything like this before, unless you listen to M.I.A. who is kind of similar. Lady is more based in hip-hop, where as M.I.A. has more of an international sound. At any rate, believe me when I say you haven’t heard other music close to what these two ladies have put out. Put in Lady Sovereign’s album and you will be amazed at what the fiesty little Brit flows out of her brain/mouth and you won’t be able to stop bobbing your head. (I have her pumping through the headphones as I type). From there, the mix goes on a 1h 17m non-stop trip through current hits to some oldies all on a upbeat, hopped-up vibe. After reviewing the track list I came up with the title of Baby Got Sexy Back for the mixtape, so you may know two of the tracks already. If you want a copy let me know – I can give you a copy of the CD, or in MP3 form for those that are in the 21st century. As for the track list? I am not telling. You have to listen to it and be suprised.
Testing out some new features of the new blog host and some Youtube links, which appear to work. Here are the videos to my favorite 3 songs from the album, in order of preference. The first is the video for “Random”, followed by the “Love Me Or Hate Me” and “9 – 5″ videos.
