Hamburglar Stole My Heart!
What?!? I don’t even know what that means! Man, I am weird! Let’s gloss over my weirdness and move onto something else… yup, another post related to the grill. Hopefully they will slow down once the newness of it wears off. It was a nice 10 degrees and clear yesterday and so I took a walk in the morning to pick up some supplies. First, I headed to Homebase to pick up the Weber Rapidfire Chimney Starter (it was cheaper at Homebase) which helps in lighting and getting the briquettes ready quicker. Next, it was off to grocery store next door to get some ingredients for my homemade patties, but not the meat yet. That was picked up at the butcher on my way home… some fresh minced steak being key to a good burger I think.
Once home, I prepared the burgers so that they would have some time to sit in the fridge to become firm and tasty. Here is what went into the patties (made 4 of them):
* 1 pound ground beef
* 1/2 small yellow onion, finely chopped
* 4 tablespoons brown sugar (make this 2tbsp next time)
* 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
* 1 teaspoon garlic powder
* 2 tablespoons steak sauce (I used HP)
* 1/4 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs (more like 3/16 cups)
The recipe actually called for 6 tablespoons of sugar but I only used 4. They were still just a bit sweet and so I would probably cut this down to 2 or 3 next time. Also, I didn’t use a full 1/4 cup of bread crumbs as it seemed too much, and they were plain ones as I couldn’t find the Italian seasoned ones here; maybe I will add some of my own Italian seasoning next time. There will be a next time, for sure, as these burgers were so tasty, and I think cooking them on charcoal did make a difference. Everything went pretty well considering it was my first time use charcoal ever, and the only thing left to do is to research how to put the coals out quicker than just letting them burn out. I didn’t get a chance to take a lot of pictures, like I normally do, as I was too busy grilling and drinking my beer (grunt! grunt!) but here are a couple I did manage to get.
